Aviation Town in E China’s Anhui Province Sees Flying Dreams Come True

WUHU, May 8 (Xinhua) — China’s general aviation industry has been booming in recent years. In an aviation town in east China’s Anhui Province, flying dreams have already taken off.

Attracted by the overall planning formulated by the local government, Xoar Aerotech, a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) propellers manufacturer, settled in Wuhu general aviation town in 2017 with an aim to become the first privately-owned propeller manufacturer being granted TC (Type Certificate) of Propeller in China. Many other manufacturers also made the same choice, as the city can offer a good supply chain in the aviation industry.

Anhui has become one of the first pilot provinces to open low-altitude airspace in China. In the near future, this aviation town will see more and more flying dreams set sail.

Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport Witnessed the First Passenger Flow Peak After Opening to Traffic

During the May Day holiday, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport witnessed the first peak time for passenger transport after opening to traffic. The airport handled a total of 22 flights and made the passenger throughput of 2,997 people. Air tickets during the popular time slot were more sought-after from Wuhu-Xuanzhou to Daxing, Beijing. The overall operation of Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport was smooth and orderly, achieving a good start.

It is learned that Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport has opened the first batch of flights to Daxing, Beijing, Foshan and Guangzhou since it opened to traffic on April 30th. These flights are operated by China United and China Southern Airlines respectively under China Eastern Airlines. Although the launch time of flights is relatively short, business trips and travelling are booming. The favorable measures provided by the airline, such as free ride on the airport express line and free parking for 5 days, have successfully attracted passengers to choose to travel from Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport. The airline also established an emergency plan to effectively respond to the explosion of passenger flow during the holiday. The punctuality rate of flights reached 86.36% despite the adverse effects brought by unusual weather. Due to the weather and traffic flow control, 3 flights were delayed, and no flights were delayed for more than 4 hours. Passengers said that the operation of Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport makes it possible for people in the two cities, Wuhu and Xuancheng, to take a plane nearby. In the future, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport will still be the first choice for people to travel as it has superior hardware and software facilities and cheaper fares than neighboring airports.

China Attracts More Foreign Investors with Promising Prospects, Improved Business Environment

BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) — Foreign investors keep gravitating toward China as the country maintains a restorative growth momentum and continues to improve its business environment.

A recent survey by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) shows that 96.4 percent of foreign-invested enterprises are optimistic about their business prospects in China.

The figure represents a 2.1 percentage-point increase on the beginning of the year, according to the survey of over 3,200 foreign-funded firms.

In the first quarter of the year, 10,263 new foreign-funded enterprises were established in China, a surge of 47.8 percent year on year and up 6.7 percent from the same period of 2019, said MOC spokesperson Gao Feng.

Aside from the low base of the same period last year, the rapid growth was mainly driven by factors such as the stable recovery of the Chinese economy, continuous improvement of the business environment and enhanced confidence of foreign investors, Gao said.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Chinese mainland surged 39.9 percent year on year in actual use to 302.47 billion yuan (about 46.74 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter, he said, adding that the figure rose 24.8 percent from the same period of 2019.

Among all areas, the western regions in China stand out.

The FDI into China’s western region surged 91 percent year on year in the first quarter of this year.

Gao has attributed the jump, compared with 38.2 percent in the eastern region and 36.8 percent in central China, to the country’s policy guidance.

Last year, China revised an industry catalogue that names more sectors encouraging foreign investment.

According to the catalogue, eligible enterprises could enjoy a reduced corporate income tax rate of 15 percent, tax exemption on equipment for self-use, and preferential land supply for intensive land projects in the western regions of China.

The sub-catalog of competitive industries in western regions encouraging foreign investment has introduced 34 new items.

China has opened more sectors to foreign investors, strengthening their confidence in investments in the country’s western regions, he said.

With the continuous improvement of infrastructures and the business environment in the western regions, the development potential of the area will be continuously released, said Gao, adding that foreign-funded enterprises would find huge development opportunities there.

China Urges Japan to Handle Contaminated Water Prudently

China on Friday again urged Japan to prudently handle the issue of contaminated water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant based on full consultation with relevant countries and international institutions.

”The discharge of such contaminated water into the sea cannot be the first option, still less the only option. Japan has a responsibility to humanity and to future generations to review and reverse its wrong decision,” Zhao Lijian, Foreign Ministry spokesman, said at a news conference.

The Japanese government is now trying to disregard the morality and responsibility of the country, and is simply trifling with the health and safety of future generations of human beings, including the Japanese people, Zhao said.

”Japan should face up to the unanimous opposition of all countries, and consciously accept the substantial participation and supervision of the international community, including China, so that the process can take place in the full light of day,” he said.

His comments came as three UN human rights experts on Thursday expressed their deep regret over Japan’s decision to dump the contaminated water into the sea, saying the discharge could impact millions of lives and livelihoods in the Pacific region.

In a joint statement, three experts expressed concern that the 1 million tons of contaminated water could foster “considerable risks to the full enjoyment of human rights of concerned populations in and beyond the borders of Japan”.

The trio, Marcos A. Orellana, UN Special Rapporteur on toxics and human rights, Michael Fakhri, UN Special Rapporteur on right to food, and David Boyd, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment, called the Japanese government’s decision “very concerning” and “disappointing”.

They also voiced their concerns about the potential threats to human health and the environment resulting from the discharge of contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean.

”It comes after years of discussion and concerns raised by local communitiesparticularly the fishing community which was already severely hit by the 2011 (nuclear) disaster,” the independent experts noted.

The Japanese government argued that Advanced Liquid Processing System, an advanced system for pumping and filtration, was capable of removing radioactive isotopes present in the contaminated water.

However, the experts stressed that the filtered water still contains radioactive carbon-14 as well as strontium-90 and tritium, all of which have harmful radioactive charges that ALPS could not remove and “could pose risks to humans and the environment for over 100 years”.

Global concern

Meanwhile, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on Thursday night denounced Japan’s decision as a “threat to human existence”, the Korean Central News Agency reported.

”This is an unpardonable criminal decision posing a grave threat to the health and security of mankind and the ecological environment, which comes to be another clear instance showing Japan’s shamelessness and gangster-like nature,” the KCNA said in a commentary.

The Philippines on Thursday expressed deep concerns over Japan’s decision, being the first Southeast Asian country to do so.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said during a news briefing that he hopes nations, including those behind the pollution, follow legal principles, and pay for damages.

”The first principle is we are one ecosystem. The second principle is that we are interconnected and the third principle is that the polluter must pay,” he noted.

“May Day” Train Tickets Will Be on Sale Soon

This years May Day holiday starts from May 1st to May 5th, with a total of 5 days. According to China Railway regulation, passengers can make reservations for train tickets 15 days ahead. Train tickets for the first day of the holiday will be available on April 17th. Those who plan to travel by train should remember to buy tickets in advance.

It is learned that tourists mainly focus on short-distance travel or visiting relatives during the “May Day” holiday, and a large number of passengers are students. During the five-day holiday, many citizens have already been eager to travel to make up for the regret of not traveling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is predicted that tickets from Wuhu to some cities will be relatively tight during this period, and high-speed train tickets in some popular destinations may be hard to book.

If you haven’t chosen the alternate ticket purchase service, you can take advantage of loopholes in terms of timing. According to the railway sector, when tickets go on sale, if a passenger fails to pay within 30 minutes after locking the ticket, it will be returned to the system for re-sale. Usually, one to two days before the train departs, some passengers may change their destinations or apply for refunds due to changes in their itinerary, especially during the period from 22:00 to 23:00, which is the peak time for refunds. Passengers who have not grabbed their tickets can wait for the chance during this time. In addition, the ticketing system will release some remaining tickets one to two days before the departure, which is a good timing for everyone to buy tickets. Passengers should keep an eye on the information released on the official website of 12306 China Railway, and many additional trains will be opened during holidays. You can also choose alternative routes to the final destination if all direct tickets are sold out.
